Video yo!
This is an advertisement for
Qualcomm. They went around and placed links at bus stops that would have a
chain of reactions. This has a few ways that it relates to our class, like it
has an url code that will cause a reaction, boosts customer relations, and
more. The idea behind this was to make consumers of the bus stop more
interesting and creative. In this video they did a good job interacting with
the consumers and making people talk about the company. They seemed to have a
good response to their URLs. They have done this sort of thing multiple times
in different bus stops. Personalized URLs make it so they can track who goes to
that site and see how many people are responding to their advertisements. Also
they are doing guerrilla advertising by advertising where people are and doing
so in unusual ways. It catches people off guard and they can tend to notice
such advertising more than just a billboard or commercial. A bus stop is a
great place to advertise like this since people are sitting around and waiting
for the bus and usually do not have much to do while waiting. It gets more
people to know what Qualcomm is. Also Qualcomm does many videos like this one
to boost their company. This advertisement does get a lot recognition but it is
not completely effective since many people do not know what their company does.
I even had to look it up, and I found that it is a wireless technology and
innovation company. I can see many people talking about their company for all of
this but it most likely is not cost effective. The cost for this advertisement
has to be high and I would wonder what their return is on the different
locations.
There
are different ways I would change this advertisement. First somehow I would
actually put the brand name on the advertisement. The advertisement right now
only has "are you born mobile?” which does not specify what company the
advertisement is for. It would help them get their actual brand out if the
board or bench had it on there. Although over all though I like the idea of
guerilla advertising, especially having the advertising where they did. I think
that it is a creative way and many people will talk about it.
